Privacy Policy for Shopify Stores: Free Generator & Guide

Shopify requires every store to have a privacy policy. But a generic template won't cover Shopify-specific data practices: Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, Shopify Analytics, third-party apps, and marketing pixels. What Your Shopify Privacy Policy Must Include

1. Shopify-Specific Data Collection

Your Shopify store collects more data than a typical website: customer names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, payment information, order history, browsing behavior, device information, and IP addresses. Shopify itself also collects data about your customers for analytics and fraud prevention.

2. Shopify Payments & Payment Processing

If you use Shopify Payments, customer payment data is processed by Shopify and Stripe. Disclose this. If you use third-party gateways (PayPal, Klarna, Afterpay), list each one.

3. Shopify Analytics & Cookies

Shopify uses cookies for cart functionality, checkout, analytics, and fraud detection. Plus any marketing pixels you add (Facebook, Google, TikTok, Pinterest). All must be disclosed.

4. Third-Party Shopify Apps

Every app installed on your store may collect customer data: reviews apps, email marketing, upsells, loyalty programs, shipping. List them.

5. GDPR & CCPA

If you sell to EU or California customers, your policy must include GDPR data subject rights and CCPA consumer rights. Shopify provides some built-in compliance tools but the policy itself is your responsibility.
