Aspect Ratios Explained: Why 1:1 vs 16:9 Matters
The aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between width and height. If you upload a 16:9 image to a 1:1 platform slot, something gets cropped โ usually the most important part.

The 3 Most Common Social Media Image Mistakes
1. Uploading a full-resolution photo (4000ร6000 px for a 1080px slot)
Platforms auto-resize large uploads. Their compression is aggressive and quality-destroying. You're better off resizing to the exact target dimensions yourself with a quality-controlled downsample โ your 1080px version will look sharper than the platform's 1080px version of your 4000px original.
2. Using the wrong format for the content type
Photos โ JPEG. Screenshots, logos, text โ PNG. If you upload a screenshot as JPEG, the text gets compression artifacts and becomes blurry. If you upload a photo as PNG, the file is 5ร larger with no quality benefit.
3. Not accounting for safe zones
Platforms overlay UI elements on your images. Profile pictures have circular crops. Thumbnails get timestamp overlays. Stories have header/footer bars. Keep important content in the center 80% of the image. Assume edges will be cropped or covered.
